Catalog 2013-2014

Florida Aid Programs

Renewal eligibility for Florida aid programs is checked once annually, at the end of each Spring semester.

Conditions of renewal for the FRAG, Florida Student Assistance Grant and FWEP state awards:

  1. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
  2. Minimum of 12 credit hours earned each term or 24 completed hours in the summer (before), fall and spring semesters combined.

The Florida Bright Futures programs require students to earn the minimum number of credits required for their enrollment status (6 credit hours per term for part time, 8 credit hours for 3/4 time and 12 credit hours for full time). All credits earned for the full academic year are considered for this calculation. Bright futures academic year is defined as fall + spring + summer (different from other Florida aid programs, above).

The Florida Bright Futures programs allow credits and GPA earned during the summer after to be used for renewal eligbility. Students wishing to use credits and/or GPA earned in the summer after must make this request with their Financial Aid Counselor.

Per Florida statutes, students who drop or withdraw from coursework for which they have received funding must  repay the University for the unearned hours. Students will not be eligible to receive additional funding through the Bright Futures programs until repayment is received.

In addition, the following GPA requirements apply to renew Bright Futures programs:

  • Academic Scholars: 3.0 cumulative GPA. Recipients of this program whose cumulative GPA falls below the 3.0 requirement and remains above a 2.75 are permitted a one-time restoration opportunity at the current level for the Medallion scholarship.
  • Medallion and Vocational Gold Seal Scholars: 2.75 cumulative GPA.
