Catalog 2013-2014

Four-Year Degree Plan for Major in Accounting

Note that this is a sample four-year plan. There are other course sequences that will allow a student to graduate within four years as long as prerequisite courses are taken in the proper sequence. This sample plan does not guarantee course availability, and adjustments to students’ plans may be necessary if they are unable to take specific courses during specific semesters. Students who are placed into lower level FYW, MAT or other prerequisite courses will need to adjust their four-year plans accordingly. Similarly, students who bring in Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment or transfer credit for courses will need to adjust their four-year plans. A minimum of a 2.0 GPA both overall and in the major is required for graduation. In addition to major requirements, all components of the Baccalaureate Experience must be completed in order to successfully graduate.

  • SPE 208 fulfills 4 credit hours of the humanities/fine arts requirement.
  • Natural science courses must be from different areas, one in biology and the other in chemical or physical science.
  • Prerequisites are strictly enforced.
  • Accounting service requirement: All accounting majors must, as a condition of graduation, complete 30 hours of service. Accounting majors will register with the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement during the first semester of junior year at the latest in order to document their service hours. Students will request and receive a co-curricular transcript that summarizes the service hours. The department chair will review the co-curricular transcript and submit a passing grade to the registrar for completion of the requirement. This will satisfy the ACC 099 service requirement. The transcript must be submitted to the department chair at least 30 days before the expected graduation date. The accounting department provides ways to meet the requirement through the VITA tax program and through Beta Alpha Psi. In addition the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement provides many opportunities for service. If students choose the VITA option, the accounting department recommends they undertake their service requirement in conjunction with ACC 352
