EDU 213 Language and Literacy Essentials in the Elementary School

This course provides foundational knowledge of the science of reading and the structure of the English language to support early literacy development. Candidates learn to develop students’ phonological and phonemic awareness, teach systematic and sequential reading approaches, and apply decoding and multisensory intervention strategies to support diverse learners, including those with dyslexia or its characteristics. Emphasis is placed on understanding how language and literacy interrelate to foster proficient reading and writing. Candidates also examine the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in instructional planning and practice effective strategies in clinical experiences. Clinical hours required.
