Academic Policies and Procedures
The University of Tampa confers the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Liberal Studies, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Music. The University also confers the graduate degrees of Master of Business Administration, Master of Education, Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Master of Science in Accounting, Exercise and Nutrition Science, Finance, Global Business, Instructional Design and Technology, Marketing and Nursing.
The academic procedures are outlined to enable students to gain the greatest benefit from their course of study and to make certain that they satisfy all requirements for graduation. (See also the Office of Graduate and Continuing Studies section for specific policies and procedures applying to graduate degrees.)
When students enter the University, they agree to comply with the curriculum requirements as outlined in the catalog that applies to their term of admission. The catalog outlines all degree requirements. Students must fulfill the requirements stated in their designated catalog or they may elect to adopt the requirements in any subsequent year’s catalog published as long as they are continuously enrolled. Students must meet all degree requirements in the catalog year they elect within six academic years of that catalog's initial publication. This policy may also apply to any student who leaves the University and later returns, unless graduation is not possible within the required six years. In that case, the student must use the catalog in effect at the time of re-entry. This policy may apply as long as courses and programs listed in previous catalogs are still offered at the time of re-entry. In the event the University approves major changes in a program's curriculum, every effort will be made to assist students in progressing in a timely fashion in order to avoid prolonging a student’s anticipated graduation term. Students in programs that fulfill outside certifications must comply with the most current certification requirements, i.e., teacher certification, which may change after a student's initial term of entry.
