Applicant Criminal Disclosure Review Process
The University of Tampa’s Graduate and Continuing Studies Applicant Criminal Disclosure Review Process seeks to protect the safety and academic integrity of the University community while ensuring a fair and equitable admissions review procedure for prospective students.
The admissions process requires applicants to respond to criminal misconduct questions. Applicants who answer “yes” to the misconduct questions will have their application reviewed by the Graduate and Continuing Studies Admissions Clearance Committee (GCSACC) The applicant must be cleared by the Graduate and Continuing Studies Admissions Clearance Committee (GCSACC) in order to continue with the admissions review process.
The Graduate and Continuing Studies Admissions Office is responsible for facilitating the applicant criminal disclosure and clearance process.
Step 1: Misconduct Clearance Review
- Applicants who answer “yes” to the past criminal felonies or pending criminal charges question (Applicant) will have their application submitted to the Graduate and Continuing Studies Admissions Clearance Committee (Committee) for review.
- The Graduate and Continuing Studies Admissions Clearance Committee consists of the following representatives of the University or their designee:
- Dean of Students
- Executive Director of Campus Safety
- Director of Graduate and Continuing Studies Admissions
- Appropriate Academic Program Director
- Other University Representative’s as Appropriate
- University Legal Counsel as Appropriate
- The Applicant will complete and submit the admissions clearance Applicant Review Form to the Committee.
- An interview will be held with the Committee and the Applicant to discuss the criminal disclosure and gather additional information
- The Committee will request an in-person, telephone or zoom interview with the Applicant.
Step 2: Committee Outcome
The Graduate and Continuing Studies Admissions Clearance Committee (GCSACC) will render one of the following decisions:
- The Applicant is “cleared” to continue the admissions process.
- The Applicant is “conditionally cleared” to continue the admissions process. Details of the conditional clearance will be determined by the Admissions Clearance Committee.
- The Applicant is “not cleared” to continue the admissions process. An unfavorable recommendation does not automatically preclude the applicant from reapplying for future terms provided the applicant submits additional information for reconsideration.
Step 3: Decision Notifications
- The GCSACC will inform the Graduate and Continuing Studies Admissions Office and the appropriate academic program director of the Committee's decision.
- The Graduate and Continuing Studies Admissions Office will inform the Applicant of the Committee’s decision.
The decision of the GCSACC shall be final.
