College of Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Education
The College of Social Sciences, Mathematics, and Education (CSSME) consists of eight departments housing majors in fourteen undergraduate disciplines. Social Science disciplines include applied sociology, criminology and criminal justice, history, international studies, political science, public policy, and sociology. Computational Science disciplines include actuarial science, computer science, data science, mathematics, and mathematics with computer science. Education majors may choose from programs in elementary education or secondary education; all education major programs lead to licensure in the state of Florida. In addition to major programs of study, our departments house a wide variety of minors. Many of our minors are applied in nature, helping to arm student with skills necessary to professional success. Examples include minors in Law, Justice, and Advocacy; Environmental Criminology and Crime Analysis; Professional Education; and Social Work; among others.
In addition to our traditional academic departments, CSSME houses several centers and initiatives that highlight integrative learning and research while helping to facilitate student and faculty engagement with the local, regional, state, national, and global communities. Those centers include the Henry B. Plant Museum, Criminology Institute for Research and Training, and the CSSME Problem Solving Institute.

CSSME will provide curricular and co-curricular experiences that create opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to develop skills and build connections that positively impact individuals, their communities, and the world. We will do this with the purpose of creating and empowering transformative leaders, inclusive communities, and resilient institutions.

CSSME excels at helping students to build the skills they need to succeed in any profession. Our disciplines are applied in nature, which means students will learn by doing, in and outside of the classroom. From internships and research experiences to simulations and academic competitions, faculty guide and mentor students, helping them to excel academically and grow professionally. The disciplines in CSSME help us to analyze and contextualize the world and people around us. They help us to make sense of the past while discovering and sharing new stories through data and narrative. They center and illuminate the power of education, justice, and community. They empower us to innovate, make connections, identify patterns, and solve problems. In short, CSSME bridges holistic knowledge with 21st century tools so that our students can become impactful leaders for the future.
