MUS 205 Introduction to K-12 Music Education

An introduction to music education (K–12) focusing on the cognitive science of learning (e.g., retrieval practice, working memory) with emphasis on human development, instructional practices, and strategies to support all learners. Students will explore the role of music educators in fostering growth, engagement, and success for all students, while gaining foundational knowledge and practical insights into the profession of music education. Students examine certification pathways, the Florida Educator Accomplished Practices (FEAP), and state academic standards. Topics include an overview of  K-12 music  classroom specialities and ensembles, educational technology, and the historical, legal, and financial foundations of Florida’s education system. Field hours required.
