F. Tenure-track and Non-Tenure-track Policies
The following policies suggest the distinction between a "tenure‐track" and "non‐tenure‐track" faculty position:
- The designation of a faculty position as non‐tenure‐track will be made while an existing position is vacant or before a new position is created. Upon consideration of the recommendation of the department chair, the dean will recommend to the provost whether a position that is to be filled should be tenure‐track or non‐tenure‐track.
- Both at the time of the advertisement of a position and again during the interview, candidates will be notified and reminded whether the position for which they are applying is tenure‐track or non‐tenure‐track.
- Letters of appointment will clearly state whether a position is tenure-track or non‐tenure‐track.
- Non‐tenure‐track positions may be converted to tenure‐track, and their incumbents considered for tenure at the University, by a decision of the provost, on the advice of the dean of the college, the department chair, and members of the department.
- See appendix H for policies and procedures regarding the termination and dismissal of tenure-track and non-tenured faculty.
